Glucose

“Glucose” by Yuequian Dai

Delve into the world of "glucose's structure" and its wild and crazy visual effects. Take a trip through nature's funky color palette and show off flora and fauna in all their pictorial glory. Some may dislike the distortion, but we know what we see is what we believe to be real. It does exist and is a wonder.

PRE-PANDEMIC LANDSCAPE: BOSTON

“PRE-PANDEMIC LANDSCAPE: BOSTON“ by Siwu Meng

Three years ago, I came to Boston as a fresh college student dreaming of the upcoming college life, and five months into that school year, we were all sent home because of the break out of Covid. The world essentially changed and until right now, the catastrophic effect of Covid leave the city changed forever, either for the good or bad.

Below is an image I took from Skywalk Observatory later in 2019, a photo that can hardly be replicated nowadays. I have revisited the location hoping to take another landscape picture of Boston in 2022 but the location has been closed for years already. I hope that this photo can inspire people to think of what has changed in the city on the street level and what has changed above the city as well. I probably will not have a chance to revisit the location as I am graduating soon, but for others who wish to see the city today, I recommend standing in that same location I stood and looking down on the streets.

Roses

“Roses“ by Siwu Meng

I am an international student from China, who has experienced the pandemic for ⅔ of my time in College like many others did as well. It has been 3 years now since the pandemic first broke out and I myself am close to the moment of graduation and wish to leave these pictures as a memory of the time spent under the mask.

I have decided to take these photographs of these withered flowers covered by masks to memorize what has happened during these three years around the world and still continue in my home country. The masks which signify Covid-19 have taken away too much time and passion from people, a tragedy and destruction to the entire world.

Through these images, I truly wish for the end of the pandemic and for “Roses” to bloom again.

Secret Touch

Secret Touch: Yiyi Wang

The theme I took for this set of photos is called Secret Touch, which comes from the name of my favorite song last winter. I decided the theme at first, and then I took the camera to find the images and moments in my life that express the theme smoothly and effectively. Moreover, these three photos also represent different manifestations and implications of this theme.

I thought it was a very warm experience. When I shoot with a theme or a story, I capture more details that might be ignored before, and which contain a lot of subtle warmth and shiny lights.

Tibet Tashi Lhunpo Monastery Memory: Zidi Huo

I took these photos when I arrived at Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in Shigatse during my trip to Tibet. The monastery is open for people to visit and there are also many monks living in it.

Through the red tiles and white bricks, closest to the faith, I saw the devotees shaking the sutra, guarding the 150,000 square meters of the temple and the dusk that seemed to hang forever.

Architecture

“Architecture“ by Minh Le

I am an international student from Vietnam. I have come to the United States since 2017 and have spent some time here for Highschool and College. My interest in Film and Photography started to grow during my highschool junior year, and since then, I have been learning and studying about these subjects with a serious attitude.

With this photo series, I used the Tri-X 400 film stock to capture the big pictures or the details of Boston Science Church located near the Prudential Center. These architectures some have interaction with the human aspect or not hopes to bring the church area to life as how I see and interact with it.

Thank you!

I hope these photos could bring some feelings or thoughts to you. Thank you!

Soul/Purification

Soul/Purification: Lingyi Liao

During the summer following my freshman year of college, I visited Xinjiang.

As a result of the competitive employment environment in China, many of my friends began internships during their first year of college. However, I decide to look for a location to unwind because I believe we should take every opportunity to have fun. I did not believe that traveling was a waste of time as I could have been working instead. Instead, I took the time to consider the lifestyle and life goals I wanted to lead while traveling, which helped me become more clear and decisive in my decision-making.

Soul/Baptism: Lingyi Liao

I took those pictures when I was in Tibet.

Tibet allows some people to stop admiring the beautiful scenery and makes some people persistently seek faith.

It will enable one life to question and listen to another life.

A Farewell to Boston: Amy Mitman

A Farewell to Boston: Amy Mitman

As my time in Boston is coming to an end, I have been reminiscing a lot about my experiences in this city: the good and the bad. What I’m leaving behind and what I’m looking forward to. I’ve grown and evolved so much each semester and have always said that out of all my creative skills, photography has been the one area where I can feel myself improving. Friends have come and gone but photography has always been my constant.

I only found Developed Images in Fall ‘21 but I am beyond grateful that I was able to take part in it for the past two semesters. I can’t say I’ve accomplished a lot during my time here at Emerson but I am proud to have been a part of DI. I’m grateful for Chloe and Rae and Liz and all of the members of this amazing org. Make no mistake, I’ll still be an Emerson student for one more semester, it just won’t be here in Boston. And so, for my final blog post, I wanted to share some of my favorite pictures from each semester I’ve been here in Boston as a goodbye. A goodbye and a thank you to each and every person and place who has shaped me into the person I am and molded my photography into what it is today.

From The Bedroom Floor (2022)

“From The Bedroom Floor” (2022)
Embroidery on Fabric

Erina McSweeney

By Erina McSweeney

Embroidery on Fabric

”Direct quotes from men during or after sex hand embroidered on a series of undergarments. These pieces are the culmination of multiple women’s early sexual experiences. The stark red thread against the white fabric alludes to the concept of virginity: the worth of a woman who keeps it and the power men find in “taking” it. ‘From The Bedroom Floor’ aims to highlight a subconscious contempt for women poorly disguised as flattery.”

Featured quotes: “I didn’t expect you to be so tight”. “Out of all the virgins I’ve had sex with, you were the best.” “It’s cool you don’t care about shaving.” “It’s okay that you are bad at sucking dick, your personality makes up for it.”

Last Winter Break, my brothers and their friends made a bonfire in the backyard and I spontaneously decided to join them with my camera. Well, this year over Thanksgiving Break, they had another fire. So I joined them with my camera once again. I've always had a soft spot for recurrences and symbolic bookends so this felt extremely fitting as they were almost a year apart. Once again, these photos are what came of it.

Molin Liu

Molin Liu: “ I do not want those wonderful moments only to stay on my camera. I want to share them with others and enjoy this kind of happiness that photos bring to us.”

Traveling among various countries and capturing my favorite moments is a wonderful thing and an essential part of my life I enjoy. Converting the ordinary transient moments in everyday life to permanent visual images is what the photographer does. There are some moments I need to be extremely careful to observe to capture. They are different from shooting sunset or drip-drops from the roof. Like a performance artist dressed as a clown makes trouble to people who are drinking coffee; a restaurant waiter nods and smiles at you when walking in the alleys of Venice, or a stranger’s back - all of these are ordinary views, but full of special memories and thoughts. Only by following my heart can I find those meaningful moments. However, I do not want those wonderful moments only to stay on my camera. I want to share them with others and enjoy this kind of happiness that photos bring to us.
